Poetry- The Sacred Heart
(Transcribed from original:)
The Sacred Heart
O Sacred Heart! How pained thou art
By man's most wicked ways!
Still therein glows a love divine
Which ne'er for us decays.
II.
The love bestowed on Lazarus
And his two sisters dear-
The same is lavished now on all
Who seek them without fear;
III.
Who come to thee with heart contrite
Like the prodigal of lore
And tearful promise to amend
And live in sin no more.
IV.
Little, O Jesus! Dost thou ask
Thy love from us to gain:
Little to what thou promiseth-
With thee in heaven to reign.
V.
Vile seats of sin and strife, our hearts
Are all thou pleadest for:
Thy graces will then purify
And strenght and unction pour.
VI.
I offer thee, O Lord to-day,
My heart, my soul, my all;
So may I live in thy pure sight
As not to dread death's call.
Finis.
Joseph.
